The nine-day event is the largest of its kind in the world and celebrates everything related to these fantastic soaring marvels. The Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta has grown exponentially over its 54-year run, starting in 1972 with just 13 hot air balloons and now featuring hundreds from around the world.
This annual event is a favorite of locals and visitors alike; it is a spectacular sight to behold, and the fiesta offers a full calendar of interesting and exciting things to do. Albuquerque, New Mexico, is roughly 60–90 minutes south of downtown Santa Fe in normal driving conditions, although Balloon Fiesta traffic can significantly increase travel time. What to Expect at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta
This year marks the 54th annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, and the theme is “The Scenic Route”—celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66. The nine-day event runs October 3–11, 2026, with morning and evening sessions on select days. Each morning includes scheduled ballooning activities, including Dawn Patrol on designated days, where a small group of hot air balloons takes flight before sunrise. Get your 2026 tickets here.
One of the biggest draws to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta each year is known as the Mass Ascension, where hundreds of colorful balloons lift off together, decorating the vast blue skies in a rainbow of floating globes. You’ll also be privy to lively competitions, other artful displays, and live entertainment, including local musicians and street performers.

Ticket & Admission Information
- General Admission: $20 per person, per session, plus applicable fees (children 12 and under free)
- Park and Ride: Advance prices vary by age and ticket type, with adult tickets starting at $30 plus fees; Park & Ride service is not offered Monday through Wednesday
- Parking: $20 per vehicle, per session (cash only)
- Gondola Club: $150 per person, per session, plus applicable fees—includes premium viewing, food and beverage service, and priority parking
- Special Bonus: New Mexico residents receive free general admission on Monday, October 5 with qualifying proof of residency
Some days include both morning and evening sessions. If you leave the park between sessions, you’ll need to purchase an additional ticket for the next session.
